Within antique brick walls of the Walt Disney Family Museum, the expansive imagination, vision, and industry-changing technologies of Walt Disney are showcased. Located in San Francisco’s Presidio, a series of walk-through galleries draw guests toward discoveries of a truly unique individual and the hundreds of creations he and his studio artists and Imagineers brought to life.

Featured in Gallery 9 is a 13-foot diameter scale model of the Disneyland® Walt envisioned, as well as a 360-degree spherical motion picture presenting achievements across Walt’s career: Disney Studio exhibitions at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, his love for trains, and the Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow, or EPCOT Center. GPG is proud to have had a primary role in the realization of these two standout attractions.

The Disneyland model was art directed by Geoff Puckett, and hand-crafted by some of the same model makers who built spaceship and alien planet models for the original Star Wars motion pictures. The design featured well-known attractions, as well as proposed but never realized attractions and lands. Celebrated Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter conceived the idea to display what Walt would have created in three-dimensional theme park form had budget and guest circulation challenges been no obstacle up to his passing in 1966.

Scripted and produced by Geoff, the floating spherical display presents the very first it’s a small world, the dinosaur-inhabited Primeval World, an original Abraham Lincoln animatronic figure, and the Carousel Of Progress. Produced to show filmic short stories without audio, museum guests can observe some of the key moments of Walt Disney’s illustrious career.
